Update on Wasabi for Eating – i.e. Wasabi Root (Rhizome), and More! The Wasabi Insider Issue No. 1

Update on Wasabi for Eating – i.e. Wasabi Root (Rhizome), and More! The Wasabi Insider Issue No. 1

Welcome to the first issue of The Wasabi Insider!

First – let me say THANK YOU for being part of the Oregon Coast Wasabi Family. I am so grateful for every one of our customers.

Second – You are the first to hear these two bits of news about our wasabi root (rhizome).

#1 We will have a limited amount of wasabi for eating - root (rhizome) available for purchase in the spring. Once this latest crop of rhizome is ready to harvest we will send out an email letting you know!

#2 Over the past 9 months we have been working very hard behind the scenes making some positive changes at the farm.

One of those changes includes increasing our production. It takes approximately 18 months of growing before wasabi root (rhizome) is ready to harvest. Because of such a long growing season it takes a while for changes made at the farm to come to fruition.

The good news is that the improvements we have been making will, over time, increase the amount of wasabi root (rhizome) we have available to sell. We are very excited about these changes and we can’t wait to get you even more wasabi root (rhizome)!

I am so grateful for the kind patience you have been extending to us during this transition.

Lastly – I know that the sooner we able to offer more wasabi root (rhizome) the better, in the meantime we do have both Wasabi Plant Starts, Genuine Wasabi Powder, and Wasabi All Purpose Seasoning Salt and Rub available for ordering.

Thank you again for being part of the Oregon Coast Wasabi Family.

Sincerely,

Jennifer

Ice Cream, Beer and More! The Summer of Wasabi!

Ice Cream, Beer and More! The Summer of Wasabi!

It has been such a fun summer for us here at Oregon Coast Wasabi and we wanted to share the joy with you!

We previously let you know about 6 different ways people are using our all purpose wasabi this summer at picnics, BBQs and Family Gatherings – http://www.thewasabistore.com/thewasabistore/b3flbzr8jekjmegj398welprxxkg5z

In addition - the wasabi we grow right here on the Oregon Coast has been appearing in some really fun places. Our wasabi was used this summer in both an ice cream and in a beer!

Here are those stories!

Salt & Straw is a wonderful ice cream company with locations in Portland, Seattle, San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

The Portland area Salt & Straw Ice Cream shops  featured our Wasabi in one of their special flavors for July – raspberry sorbet!

They also came out and filmed at the farm. Here is a link to their article that has the short video they made about us - https://saltandstraw.com/collab-lab-oregon-coast-wasabi/

Sunriver Brewing is a wonderful brewery located in Sunriver, Oregon. They were invited to brew a beer for The 2019 Oregon Brewers Festival (OBF) that happened in Portland, Oregon at the end of July.

They named this beer “Sunriver Roll” and they brewed it with our wasabi!

Here is the description of this beer - "Sunriver’s Japanese Dry Lager is the base for this Kappamaki roll-inspired beer. The brewers added fresh cucumbers, ginger, and Oregon Coast Wasabi to create a refreshing journey into Japanese cuisine."

This beer was even named of one the “Recommended Beers” to drink at OBF by The New School Beer website.

They said  - “Expect cravings for sushi to follow this expertly crafted rice lager with ginger and just a hint of wasabi. Don’t let the word ‘wasabi’ lead you astray. This is a must try lager that you’ll taste once and return for a full pour of”

Wow! This beer was amazing, and we are very much hoping that Sunriver will brew it again next summer!

If you hear of any fun uses for wasabi – please pass them on to us!

Lastly - if you want to order any of our wasabi products you can do so right here https://www.thewasabistore.com/shop

 Sincerely,

 Jennifer
