Oregon Coast Wasabi grows and ships fresh wasabi and wasabi products weekly.
Summary Description:
The Farm Manager is responsible for the overall on-site
management of the farm operations and greenhouses, the weekly harvest, and
performs plant care as directed. The Farm Manager manages the Farm Assistant,
coordinates with the Shipping Manager and performs backup to both positions
when needed.
Job Responsibilities:
• Manages all steps for the wasabi crop production including planting,
harvesting fertilization and pesticide application directed by the CEO.
(Performs planting and harvesting as backup for the Farm Assistant.)
• Manages all aspects of farm operation and equipment and facilities
condition to assure property function.
• Monitors plant health indicators and reports to the CEO.
• Delivers plants and nutrients from the Willamette Valley to the Tillamook
Farm site with personal vehicle.
• Prepares plans and schedules for plant care and greenhouse maintenance
including; planting, harvesting, weeding, and greenhouse management.
• Ensures that the tasks occur according to schedule and that staff
understand the schedule and expectations (in coordination with the
CEO).
• Reviews plants for health and disease and communicate this information
to the CEO.
• Applies nutrients and plant treatments according to pre-determined
schedule.
• Manages and perform the cleaning and preparations of the greenhouses
for replanting.
• Manages the Farm Assistant to fulfill the weekly harvest of plants for
fulfillment of orders and ensure that rhizomes, leaves, and plant starts are
trimmed and prepared appropriately for shipping. (Perform the harvest
as backup to the Farm Assistant.)
• Coordinates weekly shipping logistics with the Shipping Manager
• Manages the restocking and perform delivery of supplies such as shipping
materials, fertilizers, pesticides, small tools, and other supplies.
• Reviews the farm site regularly and identify maintenance needs for on farm
items such as components of the irrigation system, pumps,
cooling/heating system, greenhouse structures and undertake repairs,
manage the repair with sub-contractors, and the CEO.
• Keeps the greenhouse harvest and replanting schedule updated.
• Coordinates with agriculture and tissue plant lab consultants as needed.
Other:
• Assists with proper waste disposal and facility cleaning on an as-needed
basis.
• In general, adheres to standard operating procedures, and company
policies, including confidentiality and non-disclosure.
• Demonstrates good farm hygiene and safety practices.
Summary Benefits and Hours:
The position is salaried with commitment of 25-40
hours per week with an average of 30 hours per week.
The schedule is somewhat flexible requiring on-site presence on Mondays and either Thursday or Friday with other days flexible.
There are rare emergencies outside regular hours that may be needed.
Occasional travel within Oregon required (typically to the Willamette Valley).
Onsite work is performed at the farm location in Tillamook County.
Must be able to work outside year-round.
Must be able to lift 50lbs.
Standing, sitting, kneeling, bending over and climbing a ladder will be part of the daily work
environment.
Basic computer and office equipment knowledge is helpful.
A clean driver’s license & reliable transportation are required.

FARM ASSISTANT POSITION DESCRIPTION 2025
Oregon Coast Wasabi grows wasabi plants on our two farm sites in Tillamook County and ships fresh wasabi rhizome, plants and greens, dried wasabi products and kitchen accessories weekly throughout the USA.
The Farm Assistant is a critical member of our team; responsible for working with the Farm Manager and the Shipping Manager on the overall management of the farm and greenhouses. Duties include: ensuring the health of the plants, participating in the weekly harvest and shipping schedule, and general operations of the farm and greenhouses. Requires on-site work at our two farm sites in Tillamook County, Oregon.
Job Responsibilities:
Harvest and trim rhizomes, leaves, and plant starts for fulfillment of weekly orders, ensuring that all products are appropriately prepared for shipping.
Assist the Shipping Manager with supplies and product needed for shipping.
Work with the Farm Manager on the production of the wasabi crop including: planting, fertilization, monitoring growth rates and pathogen issues, and harvesting.
With input from the Farm Manager, perform tasks necessary plant care and greenhouse maintenance including; planting, harvesting, weeding, minor repairs, and shade cloth installation and removal. Ensure that the tasks occur according to schedule.
Review plants for health and disease and communicate any concerns/issues immediately to the Farm Manager.
In general, adhere to standard operating procedures, and company policies, including confidentiality and non-disclosure.
About This Position:
The Farm Assistant reports to the Farm Manager and works collaboratively with the Shipping Manager.
The position requires both working independently and as part of a team, depending on the task. Attention to detail farm operations, including care of the plants, harvesting and filling orders. The ability to creatively problem-solve is important, as is a willingness to focus on efficiency.
Must be able to work outside year-round. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Standing, sitting, kneeling, bending over and climbing a ladder will be part of the daily work environment. Basic computer and office equipment knowledge is helpful. A clean drivers license & reliable transportation are required. Ability to travel to both farm sites, and other occasional travel within Tillamook County, is required.
Working Hours, Wages & Benefits:
The position is hourly; ranging from 15-20 hours per week year-round. Hours will vary dependent on seasonal needs. Must be available Mondays and Tuesdays; other days worked are flexible, to be determined by needs of farms. Events such as extreme weather conditions or faulty equipment may require work outside of normal working hours/days. Work will be done at the Tillamook County farm locations. Hourly wage DOE, starting at $21/hour.
